For the past 8 years, I have been following tennis on TV. It started back in 2003 with watching Wimbledon which usually coincided with school getting out for the summer, so I was at home during the days.
Roger Federer would win wimbledon that year, and go on to win most grand slams for the next 4 years. He quickly became my idol in tennis. By 2007, I realized, "Hey, I could be playing tennis myself instead of just watching it all the time." So I went out and bought myself a cheap Walmart racket and hit the public courts. I have now been playing every summer since then and even joined a tennis club. I love it, and I'm so thankful I found a sport that gets me outside and active. I thank Federer for inspiring me.
So when my mom pointed out the other day that the men's Rogers Cup is in Montreal and that I should go see it, I though to myself, ya, I should definitely go and see Federer. Wednesday evening came and I knew Federer had made it through to the 3rd round and would be playing on Thursday at some point, but I didn't know when. So i bough a centre court ticket for both the afternoon games and the evening games and decided to make a day of it.
It was a great day. Got to see 4 matches, all with people I knew. Watched World No. 1, Novac Djocovic, win his match (he ended up winning the Rogers Cup). Finally, at around 8pm, it was time for Federer! Although he didn't win, I was satisfied with seeing the man I had watched on TV for the past 8 years put on a great effort. At this time lighting was too dim to take any great shots of him from where I was sitting, so I didn't take many. I did get a couple shots of Djocovic, but again, I went there to watch the matches, no photograph them.
